Pig rearing Courses

If you are thinking of keeping pigs, this day will be invaluable.  We will teach you everything we’ve learned about keeping free-range outdoor reared organic pigs for over 15 years. The aim of the course is quite simply to give people confidence in handling pigs and to educate them in successful ways of keeping pigs. Our next course on 3rd October is almost full.  Again due to Covid restrictions we will have a reduced number of participants and we will do must of the course outdoors on a covered veranda. Are you interested?

Farm visitors

This course is suitable for complete novices or those wishing to expand their knowledge. Course numbers are restricted to a maximum of 8 participants so there is ample opportunity to ask questions.  And there most certainly will be the opportunity to get up close and personal with the pigs!

Topics covered will include legislation, fencing, farrowing, feeding, housing, pricing, routes to market and lots more. At the end of the day, you will go home well prepared to keep your own pigs.

If you are a group, on an allotment or smallholding, we can tailor a course to your needs, just give us a call.

Alfie and Margaret are both qualified trainers.

Covid restricted outdoor class

We can, if you like, do a gift voucher…. this could be a great present for the pig lover in your life 🙂

And don’t forget we also do B&B, so if you want to make a weekend of it…. just give us a call.

We can do Course Gift Certificates.

Saturday, 3rd October:  FULL  This course will be held outdoors and will be subject to Covid restrictions.

Time:       11 am to 4 pm

Cost:        €90 pp includes hand-out and lunch

Where:    Here at Oldfarm.

    Thank you

Am enquiring as to the next proposed pig rearing course you intend to hold in 2012.

    • Margaret says:

      Hi Geraldine,

We are currently looking at the schedule for classes, but I think it will be early to mid-March. There is absolutely no fun going feeding pigs in current weather – it is just so so muddy out there! Will keep you posted when we finalise the date.

      Thank you for asking!

    Are you board bia appvoved.

    • Margaret says:

      Hi Gerard,

We are still working with Bord Bia (in fact have a meeting tomorrow) to get a ‘free range’ standard implemented. However, if it is courses you are enquiring about… Bord Bia don’t approve those.
