The Neighbourhood

If you choose to stay with us you are within easy reach of so many of the wonderful attractions our country has to offer.   We are based in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

Just take a look at the map below and see what is right on our doorstep!

If you want to explore the great outdoors, you are spoilt for choice. There is cycling, kayaking, walking/hiking, golf, horse-riding all within easy reach.  If you wanted to combine your visit here with learning a new skill, check out the purple ‘tick boxes’ on the map for a variety of courses/workshops right on our doorstep.

If you prefer more gentle activities there is so much history to explore.  We also during ‘normal times’ would have many art and literary festivals around us, not to mind amazing gardens and castles to visit.

It is no wonder that this part of the country is known as Ireland’s Hidden Heartland.  There is a huge choice of hidden gems of history and heritage all within a 20 minute or so drive from Oldfarm.  Lorrha Monastic Village with over 1500 years of history and Redwood Castle are within 2 miles.  Fancroft Mill, Bellefield House, Lough Boora Parklands, Birr CastleIrish Workhouse Centre and Portumna Castle and Forest  are within 30 minutes.

Fancroft Mill

Lough Derg, Ireland’s biggest lake, is just minutes from us, and the pretty villages along its shoreline are worth exploring.  Definitely enough to amuse and entertain for a couple of days.

The popular destinations –  Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny City, Galway City, Cliffs of Moher, Limerick City, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park – are all within an hour or two of our home.
